From left to right (all of us are in our PJs. so excuse us): Marco, Daniela (Marco’s gf), Me, and Luigi

*heart*

I think I already blogged about this before, but I met Luigi and Marco off of couchsurfing.com, which is basically this website for backpackers and travelers. When you register, you create a profile with your basic information, along with the city you live in and whether or not you would want to offer to host a traveler on your couch (these guys were nice enough to provide me with my own comfortable bed).

“CS [which stands for CouchSurfing] is much more than hosting or being hosted. It is even much more than cultural exchange. It is more about restoring faith in fellow human beings. It’s about the realization that even in this competitive environment human goodness still exists in the hearts of people and it just needs a spark to ignite it. As a bye product you learn patience and tolerence. You also get to know many interesting people and learn something new every time. CS is one of the best things which could have happened to mankind” ~CS testimonial

I think this is a perfect description of what CS is in my mind. When Luigi and Marco first offered to let me stay at their place for 3 days, I was definitely a bit nervous and really, I had every right to be. I usually trust people pretty easily (both a good and bad thing), but the thought of staying with them still made me a little uncomfortable. Haha, I think my friends were actually more worried than I was about the whole thing. Obviously, these situations should be approached with caution and you should definitely have a backup plan in case the people turn out to be super sketchy, but I think that the uniqueness and excitement of the whole CS experience is worth stepping out of your comfort zone for. I can’t even describe how glad I am that I decided to go through with it. I definitely got lucky with hosts who were not only kind, easy-going, and incredibly fun to hang out with, but also willing to sit down and share their perspectives on life and personal experiences with me. I’ve learned a lot from these guys not just from talking to them, but also just observing their way of life: seemingly laid back, yet full of excitement and adventures. They also provided helpful suggestions on places for me to visit when they couldn’t show me around. Ahhh, basically, all 3 of them are amazing. =)
