spalian

Before taking italian I over IAP, I had taken 4 years of spanish back in high school. The two languages are extremely similar and while knowing one makes the other a lot easier to learn, it is really easy to get confused and mix them up. Many of the words and phrases in italian are exactly the same as the ones in spanish and others only differ by the last letter.

Almost every person that i’ve met has asked me whether or not I speak italian. and i would always reply with “un poco.” well, it just so happens that “un poco” is spanish for “a little” and “un po’” is the italian version of the phrase. I always kind of wondered why they looked at me so funny.
